The Mid Ohio Classic is an OMEA adjudicated band competition hosted each fall at Watkins Memorial High School. The event was founded in 1978 by former WMHS Director of Bands Jim Morgan and has continued for more than 40 years. Typically held in the fourth or fifth week of the OMEA marching band competition season, the event has grown to host in excess of 15 groups from all over the state.
Mid Ohio is held in Warrior Stadium, which features a Field Turf performance surface, bleacher seating for several thousand, and a 2-story press box affording great views of the field below. The contest has become well known for the selection of delicious, homemade food available at the stadium's concession stand. The Mid Ohio Hospitality Room, set up as a place of rest and refuge for directors, bus drivers, and pit crews, has become a bit of an institution itself.
Each year at Mid Ohio, one band is selected as the winner of the Jim Morgan Esprit deCorps award. This award is bestowed upon the band who shows themselves to carry the positive virtues of Jim Morgan throughout their participation at Mid Ohio.
Ample parking, site logistics, and a beautiful stadium make Mid Ohio a premier destination for OMEA competition.
